Once the Initiative has been able to get Harlequin Hats to a self-sustaining point, we will start building the Geek Haus. This is the database that we’ll use to quantify nerdiness/geekiness. (We know that there are people who break these apart, but we use the terms interchangably here.) Remember all those social media quizzes that tell you how much of a nerd you are? Well, we’ve decided that they don’t have it right. They only take a piece of the whole spectrum of geekiness and measure that.
What if we could measure all of the aspects? And tell you not just that you’re a Dr. Who fan – you already know that – but how much of a Dr. Who fan you are? And what kind of a fan you are – whether that’s a reader, watcher, listener, cosplayer, larper, or even a professional in a geek industry. By definition, the secretary at a nuclear power plant has a nerdier job than one at a construction company.
Once we have nerdiness quantified, then you can share things that you want to share. Stuff you buy, TV or movies you watch, books you read, cons you go to, and more. And you can share it with people who also love the same things because they have similar profiles. We’re a long way from getting there. We need techie folks to program it. We need psych folks to help classify stuff and define the taxonomy. (SECRET: we’ve already named the basic unit of geekiness.) And we need artsy folks to keep making stuff we love, and fans to keep enjoying it and talking about it – whether online or in person.
Stay tuned for more information on this ginormous project!
